Dear Friend, the mainstream success for TOP means one thing, overplayed-ness. I however freaking love this album. In all I’m gonna talk about a few albums this post. I’ve been busy listening just not as busy posting. These albums include Spotify Sessions, Blurryface and then the EP TOPxMM and singles Heathens and Cancer.
Spotify Sessions is a live version of songs from Vessel. The band describes themselves primarily as a live band and its interesting to hear them and especially the crowds because they are not big yet and it shows. My favorite thing in this entire collection is “This song goes out to the birds above me.” None of these make the list but still a fun listen if you wanna hear early sound
Next we have Blurryface with the two notable hits Stressed Out and Ride. I’m so sorry but I think I hate these songs. The way that they’ve been overplayed into oblivion hurts my soul. They do not make my list, they are not the only ones from the album. We Don’t Believe What’s On TV and Message Man also don’t make the cut. This album for me is at least an eight and likely going to be the highest rated for me. Early sound is definitely still there. Though sonically speaking this is an interesting album in general with producers all across the world for this particular one. This album came out in 2015 and premiered the skeleton outfits that were associated with the band for many years. I genuinely love most of the songs on this album with most being at least an eight or higher. My favorite would have to be Heavydirtysoul or The Judge, two very distinctly different songs. Heavydirtysoul is the progression of the band and The Judge is too but in a different direction.
Next we have two singles that came out in 2016 Heathens for the movie Suicide Squad and Cancer a cover of the My Chemical Romance song. Heathens, Heathens, Heathens. It barely makes it onto the list. If it hadn’t have been the most memorable part of that movie I would probably hate it. Cancer though, holy shit. I genuinely like it better than the original. Both make the list for vastly different reasons.
Finally we have TOPxMM. The only collab to date. Ride makes it onto the list with this feature. But just barely. Lane Boy makes reappearance. Essentially the collab is stripped vocals with the core ideas of each song better explored. Great listen and if you wanna hear remixed versions of songs: Heathens, Heavydirtysoul, Ride, Tear in My Heart and Lane Boy it’s definitely worth it. MuteMath is the attached feature and you may recognize them from the Twilight soundtrack.

All in all, Blurryface good but certain are overplayed, the cover of Cancer goes hard, Heathens scrapes onto the list and TOP+MM is an overall net positive listening experience.
