Everything I Like By Twenty One Pilots – Everything up to and including Scaled and Icy

Dear Friend, I’m back once again with another inclusion on the playlist.

Oh Chlorine (Alternative Mix) Why do you exist? There is an extra backing vocal as well as a little bit more bass. Ultimately, didn’t add anything new to the discography.

If you like Tyler Joseph’s quiet singing voice and piano, you might like Chlorine (Mexico City). His voice has a certain emotional quality that surprises me even four albums later. It does get progressively more hyped as the song progresses, which I really appreciated since I’m not big on stripped songs, but this one I liked

Interestingly enough I actually liked Cut My Lip (Brooklyn). I don’t actually like the original and I initially really despised it but it grew on me as the song progressed/further listening.

The Hype has two remixes as well. The (Alt Mix) and the (Berlin). The (Alt Mix) adds essentially nothing to the music world. Mic the Snare would give it the Pregnant Goat Award. (Berlin) adds a little bit of a groovy vibe and I don’t hate it, and I find a lot of redeemable qualities

Both (Alt Mix)’s are pretty meh and none of them stuck with me. What did stick with me is the various cities remixes

Level of Concern. One of my many quarantine songs. 10/10. But, I did discover for the first time the live from outside version. 11/10

As far as Christmas songs go it’s okay. I feel like it is strongly a product of it’s time. Namely the pandemic and the emotions associated with this song are intermingled with me and I can’t find it in my heart to put it on the list

Now for the real kicker: I don’t hate Scaled and Icy. It’s all at least sixes for me minus the final track. I will say as a Twenty One Pilots fan, I will not be putting any of it on the list minus Shy Away. The album as a whole does not represent any of the growth or core identity that the band has developed. In fact it seems as if it’s a way of grappling with pop music trends. The fan base is pretty clear on this though. It’s bad, don’t do it. I like this album and I gave it my first full listen this past week and genuinely really enjoyed it.
